Windows Starts Slowly

A slow boot PC is one of the most common - and most annoying - computer problems you may encounter. Fortunately, it is also one of the easiest to repair. There are several reasons why it takes a long time to load your PC. The most common cause, however, is that too many programs are loaded in the background when Windows starts.

When you install a new program, you may find that it loads automatically when you first log on to Windows. This can sometimes be useful as these programs can open quickly when needed if too many of them try to start as soon as this can make your PC crawl. The easiest way to fix this problem is to determine which programs load when Windows starts and to disable any programs that you don't need.

To do this, open Task Manager in Windows 10 by pressing CTRL + Shift + Esc on your keyboard. In the Task Manager window at the top of the window, click the "Start" tab. All apps and programs that are loaded when Windows 10 is started are listed here. If this is a long list, it will make your PC boot up slowly.

In Task Manager you can see the name of the app, followed by the publisher, the status and the effects on the start. If the message "High" appears in the "Effects on system startup" column, it means that the program is slowing down the startup speed of Windows 10. If you do not want the app to load when Windows starts, right-click on the relevant entry and select "Deactivate". This prevents the app from loading when Windows 10 starts.

Remember, this doesn't mean you can't use the app when you need it, just that it doesn't preload on Windows. It is hoped that disabling some of these apps will noticeably reduce Windows 10's loading time.

If you find that your PC is still booting slowly, other problems may arise. For example, you may want to check that the latest updates and drivers for your hardware are installed. If you really want to give your PC a speed boost at boot time, you should think about installing an SSD in your PC and running Windows 10 from there. An SSD (Solid State Drive) is a much faster hard drive than a traditional hard drive, and installing Windows 10 on a hard drive can make a big difference in boot speed.
