Good news for anyone concerned with privacy and security
In the second half of last year, WhatsApp started experimenting with a new feature * - self-destructive messages. The idea was simple: you could send a message and configure it so that it is automatically deleted after a certain time.
However, although there was great interest in this function, the company decided after a test phase to only make it available within group chats. Chats between just two people remained without self-destructive messages ... but that could change soon.

When analyzing the latest beta version of WhatsApp - version 2.20.84 - WABetaInfo discovered new indications of self-destructive messages in normal chats. Just like the existing group chat version, this feature is known as "Delete Messages" and offers users the ability to delete messages after an hour, a day, a week, a month or a year.

Messages that are automatically deleted after a certain time have proven popular in other messengers. Not surprisingly, WhatsApp is experimenting with extending such an option beyond group chats.

When Delete Message is enabled, the chat icon changes to indicate this and a message appears in the chat itself to remind participants when messages are removed. WABetaInfo points out that although there are references to “delete messages” for individuals, this is a function that is currently under development and will be available in a future version.
