Apple customers are also increasingly feeling the effects of the corona virus. To curb the spread of the virus, the company has, according to media reports, instructed its employees to stop releasing Apple Watch and AirPods to customers for testing unless they specifically request it.

The corona virus is having an increasing impact on the mobile communications industry. After Apple temporarily closed its offices and stores in China in early February and also canceled the live presentation of its iPhone 9, the US technology company is now taking further measures against the spread of COVID-19. From now on, customers can only test Apple Watch and AirPods to a limited extent in Apple Stores.

Actually, customers in Apple stores are allowed to extensively test various case sizes and bracelets of the Apple Watch before buying - the technology manufacturer has always advertised its smartwatch as "the most personal device ever". But now the extensive testing is over. In order to prevent the transmission of the corona virus between the customer and the employee or individual customers, employees should no longer advertise this service, according to Business Insider. Smartwatches may only be released to customers if they specifically ask for it.

Delivery of test devices only on request

Since the fitting of in-ear speakers is also closely connected to the body, the recommendation also applies to the handing out of test copies of the AirPods (Pro). Apple does not currently issue a general handover ban.

According to Business Insider, the number of cleaners in the shops has also been increased. In addition to the standard cleaning of the floors and toilets, these are now instructed to wipe frequently touched objects such as doors or spin lockers for employees several times a day.

Installation of hand disinfection stations

Other measures the US technology company is taking to contain the corona virus include installing additional hand sanitizers in its offices. Company employees told Business Insider that Apple advised its employees not to come to work in the event of illness and to postpone vacation trips.

The company offers its employees to work from home if their jobs allow it. According to 9to5Mac, honorary employees are also granted continued wages if they can take sick leave due to a corona infection.

Apple closes stores in Italy

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple has now closed all of its 17 stores in Italy. The country is currently particularly badly affected by the corona virus.

It is currently not possible to say when the stores would open again. However, the situation would be closely monitored, Apple announced in a statement yesterday.
